Guide

Sarajevo

The most fully vegan kitchens in BiH. For one day in the old town start in Baščaršija; for groceries, Džidžikovac and Marindvor.

Fully vegan

Veganer is fast food with no mixed kitchen: handmade patties and house sauces. Bistro Zdravo is a vegan bistro — soups, burgers, raw desserts and a small shop. Zelena Sredina in Ciglane does Buddha bowls, cashew pasta and raw cakes; confirm it is open before you go.

Baščaršija

Falafel Restoran is the easy plate: falafel, hummus, tabbouleh. It is affordable and vegetarian; vegans should ask about dairy in the dips. Barhana and Nanina Kuhinja are in the same quarter, with labeled vege options on mixed Bosnian menus. Ask about kajmak, dairy and stock.

A slower meal

Karuzo, near the Cathedral, is a tiny reservation-only kitchen with vegetarian and vegan plates alongside fish. Book and say you are vegan. Četiri sobe gospođe Safije is the other fine-dining address, with vegetarian and vegan menus. Taj Mahal is the Indian stop: daal, chana masala, aloo gobi — ask about ghee and paneer.

Gluten-free

Fit Bar, Apetit, Veganer and Bistro Zdravo list gluten-free options. Still confirm the plate.

Groceries

Biona & Beyond on Džidžikovac is the plant-based shop and café. BIOfan in Sarajevo City Center and MakroVita in Aria Centar cover organic and gluten-free groceries. Crvena jabuka Marindvor and Crvena jabuka Pofalići are everyday markets with vegan and bio aisles, not vegan-only stores.
